Boyd Ocon serves as the secretary of the Adai Caddo Indian Nation. He was appointed to this position in October 2023.
Boyd is the tribal linguist and is currently working at reviving the Adaizan language for the benefit of tribal members. He has translated pieces such as the Lord’s Prayer and the Star-Spangled Banner for the benefit of the tribe, as well as created videos for tribal members to begin learning the language. The language was once lost to history but was recovered from 19th Century linguistic documents concerning our people’s language before it was forgotten to time and replaced by Spanish and later English.
Boyd served in the United States Army and studied at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey, California. He also helped to prepare a good number of soldiers for training as a Running Start Instructor and later a Running Start curriculum developer.
Boyd is currently in an emergency management role. By virtue of his duties. Boyd has extensive training in emergency management and preparation and has undergone hundreds of hours of FEMA training.
Boyd graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 2011 from Brigham Young University on a full scholarship. While in the Army, he graduated from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey, California with a degree in Arabic in 2013. Boyd is currently a graduate student.
Boyd has served in a number of positions in his own faith tradition, to include missionary and leadership roles.
Boyd served as a volunteer docent of the Carmel mission, one of the 21 historic Catholic Missions in California while serving in the Army.
Boyd served as a volunteer morgue specialist with the National Funeral Directors Association and was assigned to the New York City Medical Reserve Corps in the Spring of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he traveled to Manhattan in New York City and assisted in the movement of mass casualties during that peak time.
